Malaysian Chess in 1980's and 1990's !

I never thought that there is people who do "crazy" thing like me during the pre- internet age - cutting chess news from newspaper and compile it . However during the MCF GM Tournament, i meet Terengganu chess player - Nur Ilhamuddin Shaik Ali (photo left) and he said that he also did it and he ask me if i would like to borrow his chess paper cutting and book about Malaysian chess in 80's. My answer is ...of course Ilham!

Three sets of local chess newspaper cutting by Ilhamuddin

Today i got that valuable informations about Malaysian Chess History - 3 sets of chess newspaper cutting containing local and international chess games, news and information and a book title - Chess Malaysia written by IM Jimmy Liew and edited by Ooi Gim Ewe and Zainal Abdullah M.K which are publish in 1986 (22 years ago!)

A chess news on local newspaper about the Asian Team Chess Championship held in Kuala Lumpur in 1994

I glanced trough the materials and found many interesting games and news especially about local players. There are games of past and present players such as FM IM Jimmy Liew, Cristi Hon, NM Mohd Kamal Abdullah and the MIA's (missing in action) players such as Mohd Noor Yahya, FM Eric Cheah, WIM Audery Wong, Ahmad Muzzafar, ex prodigy - Rosazman Rosley and our own Kosteniuk- Geraldine Johns Putra which if i'm not mistaken , has retired from serious chess and now an Australian citizen.

I also found a hard to find information about the World Candidate Final Match between Anatoly Karpov and Jan Timman held in Kuala Lumpur in 1993! (correction - 1990! - hairulov)

In my future articles, i will write about selected past local chess story and games from the 80's and 90's with "improved" analysis by me and my loyal assistance - Mr. Rybka and Fritz !

Thanks Ilhamuddin for the materials!
