National Arbiter's Seminar - 16th to 18th September

Hi All

With the success of the recent FIDE Arbiter Seminar, MCF is taking another step forward with its national version of the same seminar to encourage and educate more locals on the rules and regulations that govern chess events and games.

The MCF version of the seminar will cover topics that are more suited for the local circuits by focusing primarily on FIDE Laws of Chess, Swiss Pairing and Tournament Organizing. The idea of the MCF seminar is to share the knowledge and learning that were gained during the FIDE Arbiter Seminar with other local arbiters, teachers, organizers, club members, associations including parents and players whom may not have the opportunity to join the FIDE session. .

Similar to the FIDE seminar, participants for the MCF seminar will also sit for a short exam on the final day of the seminar to gauge their understanding on the topics that were presented and discussed. Those who have done well in the exams will be conferred with appropriate titles and recognitions, and can look forward to earn the National Arbiter's title which MCF plans to introduce in the very near future. The MCF seminar will also provide better preparation to the participants should they want to pursue their ambition in becoming globally recognized FIDE Arbiters or International Arbiters.

One of the interesting feature of the MCF seminar is that it will also provides an optional 1 additional day for participants to learn and be trained on using the Swiss Manager program, one of the world's most popular pairing program used in many local and international chess events. Participants are advised to purchase their own Swiss Manager program prior to attending the training day, or download the DEMO version from the Swiss Manager website. Whilst the organizer may provide computers for the participants to practice, the units available may not be enough to go around for everyone. During the learning session, participants will be taught on how to download FIDE and MCF rating list, execute pairings including changing the pairings, keying in and correcting results, understanding tie breaks, printing and preparing tournament reports, and other relevant topics that will help the user to use the software effectively.

The entry fees for the 3 days seminar is RM200 per person of which RM50 shall be used towards MCF certification. For the Swiss Manager training program, the registration fees is RM80 per person. For the entire 4 days seminar, the total fees is RM280 per person. Participants are advised that the fees do not cover for lunch, accommodation or transport during the duration of the seminar. Those who are interested to take part in the Swiss Manager training program must have a solid understanding on Swiss Pairing program prior to participating in training program. Those who are interested to take only the Swiss Pairing program will be accepted at the discretion of the organizer with a higher fees imposed.

Those who would like to inquire more about the seminar, please contact Najib Wahab at +6016 338 2542 or email najib.wahab@chess-malaysia.com

The proposed schedule for the seminar is as follows:

Thank you and Warm Regards

Hairulov - Siraj

Below is my game against Sirajudin in the MCF - DATCC friendly held last Wednesday. The game is play under 30 minutes rapid time control.

Hairulov (MCF) - Sirajudin (DATCC)
MCF-DATCC Friendly, 2.6.2010

Actually i was about to play 1.d4 but Siraj "suggest" that i play other moves because we have play countless training games which i start with 1.d4 so .....1.e4 e5 2.d4 ...however Siraj doesn't mentioned that i "can't" play d4 in the second move :) 2...exd4 3.Qxd4

Another option is to play The Danish Gambit  with 3.c3. Taking with the queen on the 3rd move seems like a beginner move but don't be surprised, former Women World Champion - Xie Jun did beat a GM with this move. 3...Nc6 4.Qe3 d6 5.Nc3

Yours truly (left) vs Sirajuddin. Photo from Ng6 blog

5...Nf6 6.Bd2 a6 7.0-0-0 White idea is to castle queen side  quickly and storm his king's side pawns if Black's choose to castle on the king side.7...Qe7 Black keep the option of castling queen side  so white cannot proceed with the plan of pushing the  king side pawns yet.  8.Nge2 g6 9.Nf4 Bg7 Black is planning to castle kingside with a fianchetto bishop, because of the attractive d5 square, i choose to change my initial plan of pushing my kingside pawns and use  the d5 square as my pivotal square.  10.Ncd5 Qd7 11.Bc3 Nxd5 12.Nxd5 Ne5? 12...f6 should be play because after 13.f4 black will lose a pawn 13...Ng4 14.Qg3 0-0 15.h3 Nh6  if 15...Bxc3 16.bxc3! black will lost material after  16...c6 (if 16...Nh6 17.Nxf6 losing the queen) 17.Nb6 16.Bxg7 Kxg7 17.Qc3+ f6 18.Nxc7 18.e5! is  also strong but i want to play simple 18...Rb8 19.g4  19.e5! stronger  19...Qe7 20.Bg2 Be6 21.Nxe6  i missed 21.g5! winning a piece   21...Qxe6

22. Qb3 At this time i start to felt the time pressure and choose to exchange queen and simplified matter. Probably not a wise decision though.  22. g5 is perhaps stronger.

22... Qxb3 23. axb3 Nf7 24. h4 Rbc8

25. Rd4 b5  26. Kd2 Rc7 27. Ra1

Ra7 I had less then 5 minutes around this move compare to my opponent 10 minutes.

28. Ra5 attacking the a6 pawn.

28... Rb8 29. b4 fixing Black's queen side pawn on the light square so that i can attack it later with my bishop.

29... Rb6 30. g5 Nd8 31. e5 Nc6

32. gxf6+ 32. exf6+ ! is stronger for e.g

32... Kf8 33. Rxd6 Nxa5 34.Rd8+! an important in between move 34... Kf7 35.Bd5+ Re6 36.bxa5 b4 37.Rd6  winning a piece and the game

32... Kf7

33. Bd5+

Kf8 34. Bxc6 Rxc6 35. e6 35. Rxd6! Rxd6 36.exd6 Kf7 37.b3 Kxf6 38.c4 is simpler and  stronger35... Ra8 36. Rd5 Re8  It seems that i will lose both my e and f pawn after 37.e7+ Kf7 but i have a stronger move

37. f5! gxf5 38. e7+ another important in between move.
Kf7 39. Rxf5 d5 40. Ra1

Rxf6 41. Rxf6+ Kxf6 42. Rxa6+ Kxe7 43. Ra7+ Kd6

44. Rxh7 Re4 45. c3 d4

46. Kd3 1-0 Black resign.

Actually Black has one last trick with  46...dxc3!? hoping for 47.Kxe4?? cxb2! and it's black who is winning!  However if white take his time,  he will surely play the correct move 47. bxc3 winning.
