Board 1

IM Mas Hafizulhelmi (2439) vs GM Mateo Ramon (2487)
Dresden Olympiad (5), 17.11.2008

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 a6 Sicilian Kan Variation. Usually Mas have a good score against this system. If i'm not mistaken, he beat GM Mikhail Ulibin at Biel this year with this opening. 5.Bd3 g6 6.0–0 Bg7 7.Nf3 d6 8.c4

The Maroczy Bind formation has give Mas a good results before. I predict a good game for Mas. He know the system very well! 8...Nf6 9.Nc3 0–0 10.Bf4 Ng4 11.Be2 Ne5 12.Qd2 Nxf3+ 13.Bxf3 Be5 14.Bh6 Re8 15.Rfd1 Nc6 16.Be2 Bd4 17.Bf1 Qb6 18.Rac1 f6 19.a3 Qb3 20.h4 Bc5 21.Qf4 Bd7 22.Rd3 Qxb2 ??

A blunder by black He should have play 22...Qb6 because after 23.Qxf6? Bd4! 23.Qxf6! Re7 24.Rb1 actualy the live game shows 24.Nb1 and white win. This must be a technical mistake because white queen is hanging. The logical move is 24.Rb1 Qxa3 25. Rf3! and mate is unavoidable. However the fatest win is 24. Rf3!! and mate in f8 will force black to gave his queen with 24..Qxf2 1-0 Congratulation Mashafizul !!!

Board 2

IM Dominguez Jose M (2345) vs FM Lim Yee-Weng (2396)
Dresden Olympiad (5), 17.11.2008

1.Nf3 c5 2.c3 d5 3.d4 cxd4 4.cxd4 Nc6 5.Bf4 Nf6 6.e3 a6 7.Bd3 Qb6 8.Nc3 Bg4 9.0-0 e6 10.Na4 Qa7 11.Rc1 Rc8 12.Qb3 Bxf3 ?

A normal move but actually a serious mistake. Fritz found a strong tactical reply 13.Nb6! Rd8 [13...Bxg2 14.Nxc8 Qa8 15.Nb6 Qd8 16.Kxg2] 14.gxf3 threatening 15.Bc7 trapping the rook! 13.gxf3 Fortunately white reject the move 13...Nd7 14.e4 Rd8 15.exd5 Nxd4 16.Qd1 e5 17.Bxe5 Nxe5 18.Re1 White will win back his material 18...Bd6 19.f4 0–0 20.fxe5 Rde8 ?!

20...Rfe8 is better 21.Bxh7+ Kxh7 22.Qh5+ Kg8 23.exd6 Rd8 Yee Weng is two pawn down and his opponent has a strong passed pawn on d file. However Yee Weng has a swindling chance due to white exposed king 24.Re7 Rxd6 25.Rcc7 Rh6 26.Qg4 Nb5 27.Rxb7 Qa8 28.Qd7? A serious mistake by white. 28.Nb6 would mantain the pressure.

28...Nd6! Now if the rook on b7 move..black queen will take the pawn on d5 and get a strong attack on the a8-h1 diaganol combine with Rg6 29.Nc3 Nxb7 30.Qxb7 Qd8 31.Qc7 Qb8 32.Qxb8 Rxb8 33.b3 Kf8 34.Rc7 Rd8 35.Kg2 Rhd6 36.b4 Rb6 37.a3 Ke8 38.Kf3 Rf6+ 39.Ke3 Rh6 40.Ra7 Rd7 41.Ra8+ Rd8 42.Ra7 probably the game will ended in a draw 42...Rd7 43.Ra8+ Rd8 44.Ra7 Rd7 Malaysia is now in the 63rd place from 154 countries with 4 points from the maximum 8 which mean a 50% performance. Malaysia initial seeding is 73. We are now ahead of our neighbouring country Singapore ( 70th) who will faced Australia in the 5th round.

aggresive play by Jimmy. Fritz Opening book suggest 14..Nh4 and 14...Ne4 15.Bg3 Bxg3 16.Nxg3 Qg7 17.Re1 g4 18.Ne5 Nxd4 19.Bb1 Nb5 20. Re3 Bd7 21.Nf1 Be8 22.h3 hxg4
