Jan Werle - No ICC !?

Jan Werle a young Dutch GM won The European Union Championship recently, leaving many big names such as Adams, Short, Bacrot and Vachier-Lagrave, behind.

Reading from chessvibes.com past interview with this guy, it’s quite surprising to note that he is really not a high ambitious chess GM. He doesn’t set any serious goal in chess and he spent “only” two hours to practice everday when not playing in tournaments.

The most interesting thing he mentioned in a video interview after winning The European Union Championship is he avoid playing in Internet Chess Club (ICC)... probably he meant that he avoid playing blitz to often in his trainings.

However he did have an excellent session with trainers such Dutch trainers Herman Grooten and Cor van Wijgerden, Sergey Tiviakov and currently with Ivan Sokolov .

He is studying Law in Groningen and once tried as chess pro for a year but think it’s not fun and decide chess to be his hobby only. He studied games of Kasparov, Petrosian, Smyslov, Karpov and Botvinnik to improve his game.
