Malaysian IM Mashafizul Helmi (photo right) produced a shocking victory in his final round game against Iranian GM Morteza Mahjoob in the 16th International FAJR Open Chess Tournament . The tournament was won by Iranian GM Ghaem Maghami Ehsan (2589) . Mas win in the final round put him in the 9th place, ahead of several GM's and IM's. Among the GM that trail behind Mas is GM Sergey Kasparov (2458)! This was a good performance by Mas because he was only the 24th seeded. Although Mas will not certainly achieve a GM norm in this tournament but from my calculation, Mas will gain 5 rating points . Bravo Mas!
