Hari Raya at 1st Saturday UTM

I was at Johor Bahru celebrating Eid al-Fitr. Coincidentally the UTM 1st Saturday was held on my final day at JB so i thought participating in this  tournament before battling the traffic jam back to KL  should be ok for me :)

The tournament is a  5 round Swiss with 20 minutes time control. The Champion is  Leong Mun Wan who have  the same score (4.5 points) with Abdullah Che Hassan, however Mun Wan was declared champion based on  tie-break. Yours truly finished 3rd :)

Below is my win against Tahmankar Mandar in the final round.

1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 g6 3. c4 Bg7 4. Nc3 d5 5. Qa4+ - The Flohr Variation. Nothing Special - ala Carlsen  :)

5...c6 6. Bf4 Na6?! 7. e3 7. Nxd5! I missed this move. 7...Nxd5 8. cxd5 Qxd5 9. e3 b5 (9... Nb8 10. Bc4 Qd8 (10... b5 11. Bxd5 bxa4 12. Be4) 11. Ng5 O-O 12. Qb3 e6 13. h4!? an all  out attack. 13...Qa5+ 14. Ke2) 10. Qa5 and black queen side is doom.  

7... dxc4 8.Bxc4 Nc7  Of course 8... b5? is a bad move 9. Nxb5 cxb5 10. Bxb5+.    Now after 8...Nc7,
b5 will work for black.

9. Qb3 O-O 10. O-O b5 11. Be2 Now c6 and c5 is a serious weakness for black.  

11...Bb7 12. Rfd1 a5 13. a4 b4 14. Nb1 This knight has no problem to regroup back into  action. The "crazy" computer suggest 14. Be5! bxc3? 15. Qxb7 Ncd5 16. Rdc1  

14... e6 15. Nbd2 Ncd5 16. Be5 Rc8 17. Rac1 Nd7 18.Bxg7 The computer suggest to keep the bishop with 18. Bg3 but it's always tempting to me to trade  the Dragon/Gufeld  Bishop when an opportunity arose.  

18... Kxg7 19. Ne4 aiming for the c5 as a pivoting square.

19...N7b6 20. Nc5 Ba8 21. Ba6 Rc7 22. Bf1 22. e4 straight away is probably stronger.

22... Nd7 23. e4 Nf4 24. g3 Nh5 25. Qe3 Nxc5 26. Rxc5 Kg8 27. Qh6 f6 28. Be2 Ng7 29. g4 The pawn grabber computer propose 29. Rxa5! but i "saw" action on the king side . I planned to play e5 push later but i don't want black to play Nf5 harassing my Queen's at h6 which is doing a great job haunting black's king.  

29... Rd7 30. Bc4 Re7 31.h4 Bb7 32. e5 fxe5 33. Ng5 Ne8 34. Nxe6 34. Bxe6+! is quicker but black's is in serious time trouble so the threat seems better  then the execution :) 34...Rff7 35. Qxh7+ Kf8 36. Qh8#
