17th September 2010 - The Malaysian Men and Women Team left from KLIA to Khanty Mansisk to participate in the The World Chess Olympiad 2010 which will be held from the 20th of September until the 4th of October, 2010.
The men team is represented by Malaysian No. 1 - IM Mashafizul Helmi (2422), Malaysian No. 2 - IM Mok Tze Meng (2416), FM Peter Long (2302), newly crowned NM - Tan Khai Boon (2160) and team captain - Gregory Lau (2159). The team is seeded 82 from 159 countries.

The women team is represented by NWM Alia Anin Azwa Bakri (1904) , WCM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham (1829), newly crowned NWM - Fong Mi Yen (1905), NWM Nurul Huda Wahiduddin (2020) and -NWM Roslina Marmono (1933). The team is seeded 73 from 119 countries.
On the other hand, IA Abdul Hamid Majid will be the Malaysian Team Delegate for the 2010 Presidential Election which will be held during the Olympiad in Khanty Mansisk. I was informed that Hamid who is running for the General Secretary post under Karpov's team will leave tomorrow for Kiev to meet the team before he left for Khanty Mansisk.
The Malaysia Olympiad team is sponsored by - Dato' Tan Chin Nam. Although he has announced at the recently concluded - Malaysian Chess Festival that he will take a two years break from sponsoring chess, the Olympiad sponsoring must have been arranged earlier.
The captain for the men team - Gregory Lau mentioned that beside of a good finish in the overall result, the players will also gunning for norms, especially for - IM Mashafizul and IM Mok Tze Meng who will aim for GM norm.

I will update the Malaysian team progress during the Olympiad. Gregory has promised to feed me with the insight development of the team - if the internet connection at the Olympiad venue is functioning well .
I hope both team will try their best for a good placing and i also wish that the players achieve some norms. - Malaysia Boleh !
