Thailand Open Chess 2009 (Final Round Results) !

Thailand Open Chess Championship 2009 concluded yesterday. 20 years old Chinese and untitled player - Xiu Deshun create an upset by winning the tournament after finishing with 8 points. The Chinese lad didn't lost a single game and only concede two draws against German-GM Gerhard Schebler and Nigel Short. Top seed GM Nigel Short finish in 3rd place with 7 points.

FM Mok Tze Meng finished as the top Malaysian after beating Norweign - Vea Odin Bilkra in the last round . He collected 5.5 points and finish in 25th place. Malaysian top players - IM Mashafizul had a tournament to forget and finish in 35th place with 5 points. He draw against Japanese - Shinya Kojima in the last round.

Another Malaysian representative - ex World Police Champion - Ismail Ahmad had a good tournament, he finished with 5 points to finish in 44th place.

According to Ismail Ahmad, he and Mas experienced logistic problem during the tournament because their hotel is far from the tournament hall. To make matter worse, there's no internet and telephone line in their rooms which gave them problems to prepare in between rounds because the can't acsess the pairing for the next rounds.

1. FM Mok Tze Meng (FIDE 2302) 5.5 points 25th place

1. IM Mashafizul (FIDE 2425) 5 points 35th place

3. Ismail Ahmad (FIDE 2082) 5 points 44th place

4. Hj. Abang Azman Draup (FIDE 1725) 2 point 119th place

5. Abang Draup Zamahari (FIDE 1636) 1 1/2 points 120th place
