Mikheil Mchedlishvili Slow Down Torre !

GM Mikheil Mchedlishvili (FIDE 2604) from Georgia

GM Eugene Torre registered his first defeat in this tournament when he lost to Georgian - GM Mikheil Mchedlishvili in the 8th round. The Georgian GM look quite "old" for his age- he is 29 years old and already show signs of balding ?.

GM Mikheil Mchedlishvili (2604) - GM Eugene Torre (2524) [A00]

3rd Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arr Duty Free Fiesta Mall, Philip (Round 8), 11.09.2008

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 Bb4+ 4.Nbd2 0–0 5.a3 Bxd2+ 6.Bxd2 Ne4 7.g3 Nxd2 8.Qxd2 b6 9.Bg2 Bb7 10.0–0 Be4 11.Rfd1 c6 12.Rac1 Na6 13.Qf4 f5 14.Bf1 Bxf3 15.Qxf3 Nc7 16.Bg2 b5? This move is responsible to ruining black position after probably better is 16...Qg5 17.d5! A brilliant push by white. After this move, black pawn structure collapse. 17...bxc4 17...cxd5? 18.cxd5 Nxd5 (18...exd5 Black has too many pawn weakness on the light square which can be attack by white bishop and black will by doubling rook on c file 19.Rc2) 19.Qb3! black knight at d5 was pin because if the knight move the rook on 18 will be the victim. Black b5 pawn also weak. 18.dxc6 d5 19.Rxc4 dxc4?!

Torre probably know that playing natural move in this particular bad position will give him no chance at all so he tried his luck to imbalance the position....unsuccessfully though. 20.Rxd8 Rfxd8 21.Qf4 c3 22.bxc3 Rd1+ 23.Bf1 Rc8 24.e4 fxe4 25.Kg2 26.Qxe4 Rd6 27.Bb5 Nc7 28.Ba4 a6 29.Qb4 Rdd8 30.Bb3 h6 31.a4 Nd5 32.Bxd5 Rxd5 33.Qe7 Rdd8 34.c7 Re8 35.Qd7 Rf8 36.f4 Rce8 37.Kf3 e5 38.f5 e4+ 39.Ke3 h5 40.h3 Kh7 41.f6 1–0
