Mas "Uli" GM Mikhail Ulibin !

In malay, uli mean knead and in English ( in case u don't know :) ) it means " to work and press into a mass with or as if with the hands" which i think is best described to what IM Mashafizul has done against the Russian and 14th seed- GM Mikhail Ulibin in the 3rd round of 2008 Biel Chess Festival (Master Tournament). Below are the game. ( analysis will follow)

IM Mas,Hafizulhelmi (2386) - GM Mikhail Ulibin(2520) [B42]
Biel Chess Festival (Round 3), 23.07.2008

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 a6 The Kan Variation- is a modern way to play the Sicilian
5.Bd3 Bc5 6.Nb3 Be7 7.0–0 d6 8.Qe2 8.Qg4 is an aggresive alternative but Qe2 is more solid an less risky. 8...Nd7 9.f4 Qc7 10.c4 Ngf6 11.Nc3 b6 12.Bd2 Bb7 13.Rae1 h5 I'm not sure about the latest theory on this line but Fritz 11 opening books give 13...0–0 and 13...Rd8 as the main lines 14.Kh1 h4 15.Nd4 The drawback of the ..Be7 Sicilian Paulsen / Kan variation compare to ...Ba7 variation is the "off side" knight on b3 can be relocated back at the more active square on d4! 15...g6?! I think this move gave black serious potential weakness at the e6-f7-g6 square. 15...h3!? opening the h1–a8 diaganol for the black Bb7 bishop is quite interesting. 16.b4 Nh5 threatening the chepo 17...Ng3+ forking the king and knight. 17.Kg1 Bf6? 17...h3!? should be considered. The text move is probably the desicive mistake . Black "invite" white to play the strong...
18.e5!± dxe5 19.Nxe6 There you go! 19...Qd6 19...fxe6!? is a better alternative but white is still winning after 20.Bxg6+ Kd8 21.Bxh5 h3± 20.Nd5+-

i recall Mas play the same "sexy dancing knight" against GM Eugene Torre at the 2008 Tarakan ASEAN Chess Circuit earlier this year! 20...fxe6? now g6 is weak. Black should have played 20...Bxd5!? though it's still doesn't change the outcome. 21.Bxg6+ Kd8 22.Nxf6 Nhxf6 23.fxe5 Qd4+ 24.Be3 Qg4 24...Qxe5?? That pawn is poisoned 25.Qd2 ( threatening discover check with Bb6+!) 25.Rxf6Nxf6 26.exf6 Qxe2 27.Rxe2 Kc7 28.Bf4+ e5? i don't know why Ulibin give the e pawn for free which open more lines and diaganols for Mas bishops and rook to attack black king. 29.Bxe5+ Kd7 30.Bf5+ 30.Bf4! Is more powerfull , and i'll gave you a lengty "Fritz line" 30...Rae8 a) 30...h3 31.Re7+ Kc8 (31...Kc6 32.Be4#; 31...Kd8 32.Bc7+ Kc8 33.Bf5#) 32.Bf5+ Kd8 33.Bc7#; b) 30...Rhg8 31.Re7+; 31.Rd2+ Bd5 32.Rxd5+ Kc6 33.Rd6+ Kc7 34.Bf5 Re1+ 35.Kf2 Re2+ 36.Kxe2 Re8+ 37.Kf1 b5 38.f7 Rd8 39.Rxd8+ Kb7 40.Be4+ Kb6 41.c5+ Ka7 42.Rd7# 30...Ke8 31.Bg6+ Kd7 32.Bf7 Rhf8 33.Rd2+

after this move, my fellow friend "Fritz" annouced mate in 10 !!!( maximum moves) 33...Bd5 34.Rxd5+ Kc6 35.Rd6+ Kc7 36.Rd4+ Kb7 37.Rd7+ Kc8 38.Be6 Rxf6 39.Bxf6 Kb8 40.Be5+ Kc8 41.Ra7+ Kd8 42.Bf6+ Ke8 43.Rxa8# 1–0
