IM Mashafizul Helmi (photo right) is playing in the The 2008 Doeberl Cup which held at the Hellenic Club of Canberra ( The capital city of Australia) from 19-24 Mac 2008. It is a 9 round tournament with 90 minute + 30 second increment time control. The tournament consist four category – Premeir, Major, Minor and Under 1200. The total prize money is Australian $ 16,800 with the 1st prize for the Premier category will received Australia $ 4,000. IM Mas probably doing a “warm-up” before competing in the Sydney International Open (SIO) which will be held on 25th March 2008 to Saturday 29th March 2008 at Parramatta Town Hall in Sydney, Australia.
So far IM Mas has colleted 3.5 points after 5 round. He beat 3 lower rated player and draw with Belgium- GM Vadim Malakhatko (2600)!!- photo right. He only lost to the top seed GM Zhang Zhong (2617)photo left in the 2nd round so far.
