Malaysian Chess Championship - Round 4 : Looi, Xin Hao vs Brien Foo Jiu Weir

Looi Xin Hao  (2157) - Brien Foo Jiu Weir (1720)
Malaysian Chess Championship
Round 4, 2019.05.30, Kuantan, Pahang

1. d4 Nf6 2. Nc3 e6 3. Bg5 Be7 4. e4 Xin Hao repeat the same line he play
against Hafizul in round 2 but this time his opponent play

4...d5 4... d6 is played by Hafizul in Round 2

5. e5 Nfd7 6. Bxe7 Qxe7 7. f4 c5? Brien want to transpose into a French Defense set up but he should have played 7...a6 and then only c5

8. Nb5 ! now will face problem to cover both c7 and d6 weakness

8...Nb6 ? the engine suggest giving up the rook for quick attack. 8... O-O 9. Nc7 cxd4 10. Nxa8 Qb4+ 11. Qd2 Qxb2 12. Rd1 Nc5

9. Nd6+ Kf8 10. dxc5 Na4 11. b3 ? of course white is clearly winning but 11. Qd4 is the correct way to trap the knight on a4 and the bishop on c8 in en prise too

 11... Nc3 12. Qd4 Ne4 13. Nxc8 Qh4+ this look strong but white have no
problem to counter it

14. g3! Nxg3 15. Qf2! Nc6 16. Nd6 Nd4 17. O-O-O? but this is not the right way! White can easily give the h1 rook for two pieces with 17. hxg3! Qxh1 18. Qxd4 and retain his material advantage.

17... Nge2+ now white have to give his queen for two pieces. What a mess.

18.Qxe2 Nxe2+ 19. Nxe2 Qf2 20. Nxb7 Rb8 21. Nd6 Qxc5 22. Nd4 Rb4 23. N6b5?
suddenly white has lost control over the game.

23...a6 24. a3 Rxb5! black will get two piece for a rook - a good bargain  25. Bxb5 axb5

now i prefer black side 26. Kb2 Ke7 bringing the h8 rook into play  27. Rhg1 g6 28. Rg3

 Rc8 29. Rd2 h6 30. Rf3 Kd7 31. Rfd3 Ke8 32. h4 h5 33. Rd1 Ke7 34. R1d2 Ke8 both side is playing safe and didn't want to force the matter  yet 35. Rf2 Ke7 it seems that black is waiting for white to offer a draw - and get some rating 😊

36. Rff3 Ke8 37. Rd2 Ke738. Ne2 Qb6 39. Rd4 Qa6 40. Rc3 Ra8 41. b4 Rc8 42. Rxc8 Qxc8 43. Nc3 Qb7 44. Ne2 Qc6 45. Nc1 f6 46. Nd3 Qb6 47. c3 Qc7 48. Kb3 Qa7 49. Nc5 fxe5 50. fxe5 Qc7 51. Nd3 Qa7 52. Kb2 Qa4 53. Nf4 Kf7 54. Ne2 Ke7 55. Rd2 Qa7 56. Nd4 Qc7 57. Rg2

57...Qxe5??  whatttt???  58. Nc6+ 1-0
